How to use the online teleprompter
Type or paste your script into the field above, or drop a .txt or .md file onto it. The counter under the field shows the number of words and how long the script takes to read aloud at a slow, normal or fast pace — handy when a video has to fit into 60 seconds.
Press “Start teleprompter”. The page switches to full screen, counts down from three and starts scrolling. Speed, text size and column width are on the bar at the bottom, and your settings are remembered in this browser. Reading through teleprompter glass? Turn on the mirror.
The prompter understands the same markup as the Teleo app:
- [pause 3] stops the text for three seconds — before a punchline or a new topic.
- --- on its own line adds a visible break between parts.
- **words** in double asterisks are highlighted, so you remember to stress them.
Keyboard shortcuts and clickers
| Space | Start and pause |
|---|---|
| ↑ / ↓ | Faster / slower |
| ← / → · Page Up / Page Down | Previous / next paragraph |
| + / − | Bigger / smaller text |
| M | Mirror the text |
| Esc | Exit the prompter |
Most Bluetooth presentation clickers send Page Up and Page Down, so they move the text paragraph by paragraph out of the box.
How to read naturally from a teleprompter
- Keep the text close to the camera. On a laptop, narrow the column so it sits right under the webcam: your eyes move less and viewers do not notice the reading.
- Aim for 6–8 words per line. Make the column narrower rather than the letters smaller.
- Start a little slower than feels right. Speeding up during a take is easier than chasing the text.
- Write the way you speak: short sentences, simple words, and a [pause 1] where you need a breath.
- Read the script aloud once before recording and mark the words you stumble on with **.
Online teleprompter or the Teleo app?
The online prompter is made for reading from a computer: a webinar, a video call, a voice-over, a talk rehearsal. It scrolls at the speed you set. The Teleo app for iPhone, iPad and Android goes further: VoiceTrack listens to you, scrolls at the pace of your speech and waits when you pause, and the app records video with the script right next to the camera lens.
You do not have to retype anything. Press “Send to Teleo” and scan the QR code with your phone camera, or enter the six-character code in the app. The code works for 24 hours.
Questions
Is this online teleprompter really free?
Yes. There is no account, no watermark and no time limit. It runs in the browser on any computer, tablet or phone.
Do you store my script?
Your draft is kept only in your browser. The script is uploaded only when you press “Send to Teleo”: it is stored for 24 hours so your phone can pick it up, and then deleted automatically.
Can I use a Bluetooth clicker or a foot pedal?
Yes, if it sends Page Up / Page Down or the arrow keys, as most presentation clickers do. Each press moves the text one paragraph back or forward, and Space starts and pauses it.
Does the text follow my voice?
Not in the browser version: it scrolls at a steady speed that you change with ↑ and ↓. Voice-controlled scrolling is in the Teleo app for iPhone, iPad and Android, and it is free.
How do I move the script to my phone?
Press “Send to Teleo”: you get a QR code and a six-character code that work for 24 hours. Import by code is coming in Teleo 1.5 for iOS and in the next Android version; until then, use “Copy text” and paste the script into the app.
Does it work on a phone or tablet?
Yes. On iPhone the prompter fills the browser window instead of switching to full screen, because Safari does not allow it there. To film yourself on a phone, the Teleo app is more convenient: it shows the text over the camera preview.
